Gluten-Free Holiday Celebration Strategies

Gluten-Free Holiday Celebration Strategies

The holidays are here!

We are busy hustling and bustling from one activity or celebration to another.

Our holiday parties, office parties, neighborhood gatherings, and family holiday celebrations should be filled with cheer.  Yet, when living gluten-free, you may be experiencing more stress than cheer.

Fear creeps in at unknown gatherings.  You desire to go but fear the dreaded, “Will there be anything for me to eat?” or “Will I get through this without getting sick?”

Yes, the fear is real but you can still have a great time.

Pre-planning can Minimize Stress

With a little pre-planning, some of your stress can go away – allowing you to attend a party and have a great time.

Try these gluten-free holiday celebration strategies

to get you through your next holiday gathering:

**Eat before you go – This is an easy step to lessen the worry about the food and enjoy everyone’s company.

**Bring a gluten-free dish or dessert to share so you have something safe and tasty to enjoy.

**Afraid of cross-contamination between the dishes –  keep your own separate stash off to the side.

**Bring along your own favorite alcoholic drink to take away the worry of wondering what’s in the drinks being served. (If you choose to drink, make sure you do have something safe to eat, to keep the alcohol in check.)

**Always keep a back-up snack in your bag – just in case!

**Host the event. This puts you in charge of all the food and what is served.

**If hosting, prepare everything gluten-free, or have a gluten-free ONLY table. Place other offerings on a side table to lessen the possibility of any cross-contamination.

**Smile and say, “No thank you” when offered a new dish.  You do not need to go into detail on why you are not eating your friend’s new recipe (unless you want to!)

**Don’t care to advertise your gluten-free life?  That is up to you! Have a plan in place to get you through the party.
