With summer season upon us, and warmer weather filling our days, we need to constantly quench our thirst to keep ourselves hydrated.
Really think about HOW you are doing this.
What are you reaching for when you need to replenish your thirst?
Recently, I was in the shoe store with my boys. A pregnant mom was walking into the store with her little guy – most likely about 3-4 years old. As soon as they entered, he started whining and screaming, “I want my soda NOW mommy!” She kept responding for him to wait a minute. But, soon after, she took out a LARGE plastic bottle of soda and handed it to him! He quickly started sucking it down. I was so shocked. I stood there gawking with my mouth opened and eyes bulging (funny part was that my two boys did as well!).
Truthfully I wanted to run over and explain how harmful that soda was to his health at such an early age. On one hand, I didn’t know them at all, not my business. On the other hand, without knowledge, we cannot make good choices for ourselves and our children. I ultimately left feeling regret that I didn’t give some information to the mother. But I also understand that many people do not want to hear the truth about our food. They think because they haven’t been hit by diseases, allergies or other health issues, what they eat and do are fine. Maybe for today. Unfortunately, probably not for your future.
One can of soda contains about 15 teaspoons of sugar!** You drink this and your body craves more sugar. You are addicted. Sugar is a drug. With diabetes and heart disease on the rise, it is enraging that so many people are hooked on drinking soda. This also messes up your gut, which in turn causes imbalance in your body. (Which, sorry to say, typically leads to disease.) This really is not something that we, or our children, are drinking on a daily basis.
We need to think about what we are using to fuel our bodies. Do you want to create a life of health or a life of disease?
Please think about this the next time you pick up a soda.
Knowledge is power.
Educate someone around you who you love.
PUT DOWN THE SODA
Back AWAY from the can!
**To SEE how much sugar is in a can of soda, do this experiment with your children: Together count out 15 teaspoons of sugar in a bowl. You will see that this is A LOT of sugar! This is the can size, not the larger sizes that most kids are walking around with today. Therefore , they contain even more sugar! Now . . . do you still want to drink that can of soda?
